Geely – the Chinese powerhouse behind Volvo, Polestar and Lotus – has begun right-hand drive production of its fully electric ute, now rebadged Riddara for export markets like Australia, where “Radar” is trademarked.

The Riddara RD6 will arrive with a 200kW/384Nm rear motor, around 500km of range and a sharp circa-$50K price tag – setting it up as genuine rival to diesel and petrol-electric utes.

Size-wise, the Riddara measures 5260mm long and 1900mm wide – only marginally shorter than a Toyota HiLux – but it rides on a monocoque chassis with independent suspension all around, meaning it’s aimed more at lifestyle and recreational buyers than heavy-duty tradies.

Payload is capped at 775kg, towing tops out at around 2500kg and the tub is smaller than most rivals, but it makes up for that with 220mm of ground clearance and reasonably off-road chops, including a 22-degree departure angle.

Two battery options (63kWh or 86kWh) deliver 385km or 517km of range (CLTC), while the single-motor RWD setup does 0–100km/h in a brisk 7.3 seconds – far quicker than most diesel dual-cabs but not as fast as the BYD Shark 6.

There’s also a wild 315kW AWD version in China with a 4.5-second sprint and 3000kg towing, though it’s yet to be confirmed for export. With RHD confirmed and marketing already live, Australia’s ute landscape could be in for an electric shake-up.

So, when is it coming to Australia? Radar has already begun export talks and a budget electric ute could hit the bullseye in 2026. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
