Philippines repatriates 1,454 scam hub victims since 2021 | DZMM TeleRadyo

The Department of Foreign Affairs has repatriated 1,454 Filipinos victimized by scam centers in different parts of Southeast Asia from 2021 to 2025.

DFA Spokesperson Angelica Escalona said that in the latest incident, a total of 220 Filipinos have crossed to Thailand last October 20 where they are being processed before repatriation.

“Ive-verify ‘yung kanilang nationality. Pag-ready na, saka sila mapapadala from the border area dun sa Bangkok bago maka-uwi sa Pilipinas,” she said in a DZMM interview.

 The transnational scam industry has ballooned in Southeast Asia in recent years, with thousands of scammers estimated to be involved.

Victims in the wider region were conned out of up to $37 billion in 2023, according to a UN report, which said global losses were likely "much larger".

Filipinos victimized by these scam hubs earlier revealed they were tortured by their employers.
