Today we have another first for the channel. We take a look at a Kato DD51 locomotive.
This is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was built for the JNR. They were primarily a mainline unit, carrying out a mixture of freight and passenger trains. This particular model represents one of the four currently owned by JR East, which at times assists with the operations with the SL services.
The DD51 is an evolution of the DD15 which entered service in 1958.
In this video we unbox the model, take a close look and give it its first test run. We also pair it with D51 498 to recreate one of the example operations of the locomotive.
