Welcome to Sofia, Bulgaria — a capital city full of layers, history, charm, and surprises! We spent two full days exploring Sofia with our kids and were blown away by how much there is to see, do, and learn in this fascinating city built on the ancient Roman settlement of Serdika.
From grand cathedrals and ancient ruins to green parks and cozy bakeries, Sofia is a place where Roman history meets Balkan flair and a modern, vibrant city vibe. We walked nearly everywhere — passing through iconic squares, discovering temples, mosques, and churches, and spotting ruins both above and below ground. It felt like there was something historical around every corner.
What made Sofia really special for us as a family were the wide open parks, toddler-friendly playgrounds, and all the great local cafes and food spots (which didn’t even make it into the vlog!). We had some of the best pastries and coffee of our trip here and discovered that this city has way more to offer than most people expect.
