Jahannam is the first and outermost level of Islamic Hell, named after Hell itself, as Jahannam is also the general Arabic term for the entire concept of the afterlife's place of punishment. According to Islamic tradition, this is the least severe of the seven levels, though it remains a place of significant suffering and purification. The Quran references this structure in Surah Al-Hijr, verses 43 through 44, which state that Hell has seven gates, each assigned to a specific portion of condemned souls.
