Turkish asylum seeker learned of pregnancy while held at Henderson detention center

Описание: A Turkish couple seeking refuge in Las Vegas says their pursuit of the American dream has now come to a halt after one of them was taken into custody and booked into the Henderson detention center.

It was about two years ago when Emine and her husband, Batuhan Sahin, immigrated to the United States seeking safety, shelter, and asylum.

“We are aware that we are guilty of violating the border; we know this, but no one would want to leave their birthplace and go to a place they don't know, starting their life over from scratch. However, we were forced to do this,” Emine Sahin said.

However, back in September, the Sahins’ fresh start towards a new future quickly turned for the worse when Emine says she was ten years old when she was taken into I.C.E, but says it was at the Henderson Detention Center, which houses I.C.E detainees in southern Nevada, when Emine says she found out she was pregnant.

“The conditions in the detention center were terrible for a pregnant woman. Those were the worst four months of my life,” Emine Sahin said.

Despite the circumstance of wishing to forget the 122 days she spent behind bars under I.C.E custody, Emine says it's a period in her life that will stick with her for eternity.
