On the eve of Christmas, I hope you will enjoy my Celtic rendition of “What Child is This”, a classic Christmas carol sung to the melody of Greensleeves.
I made this video at the kind suggestion of my friend Raibert Mac Mhuirich, Commander of the Name and Arms of Currie in Scotland. Until recently, I didn’t even realise there were lyrics to Greensleeves, which is one of my favorite tunes! So it was interesting to try and use my voice to bring a new dimension to the song, which I love to play as a harp solo (as you can hear here: • Greensleeves on Celtic Harp (SHEET MUSIC A... ). There are so many beautiful lyrical renditions of this song out there already, so I thought I would do something a little different by bringing a Celtic, medieval feel to the tune with my clarsach, a beautiful replica of the Queen Mary harp (one of the 3 oldest remaining Celtic harps in the world) made by talented harpmaker Norbert Maier in Austria.
