US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese meet at the White House

Mr Trump said that the Prime Minister was “very popular” and had done a “fantastic job.” The US President said that Australia had done a good job on defence, but made clear he would always like more money to be spent.

Mr Albanese was seated alongside the US President in the White House cabinet room, with the US President promoting a fresh agreement on critical minerals co-operation that he said was four or five months in the making.

The two leaders signed the agreement and held the documents up to the cameras, with the US President saying that the two leaders would talk about trade, submarines and military equipment in their meeting.
