ISRAEL/LEBANON: Israeli politicians have been involved in several clashes: in Beirut a protest demonstration was held by Moslems claiming that Suleiman Khater, the Arab policeman convicted of murder for killing Israeli tourists, and who was subsequently found hanged in his cell, had himself been murdered; in Jerusalem a group of Israeli ministers were mobbed by Arabs as they visited a controversial shrine. The Lebanese government has lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council over Israel's involvement in southern Lebanon: the Israeli-backed South Lebanese Army has been involved in further clashes with the Popular Liberation Army. The Israeli cabinet has however reached an agreement for settling its territorial dispute with Egypt over the Taba strip. Meanwhile, the Lebanese ceasefire agreement has been put in doubt as Lebanese President Amin Gemayel has refused to go ahead with meeting Syrian President Hafiz Assad: he claims Christians are not adequately represented in the proposed new government.
