“Oravanpyörä” on Tiimalasi albumin avausraita.

Säkeistöön piti saada trässimäistä vaikutetta, niin siihen keksittiin kokeilla B-dim sointua. Välisoittoon piti saada laskeva suunta, joka toimii a-osan kanssa. Kertosäkeistö piti taasen saada erottumaan täysin muusta, joten se vedettiinkin sitten iloisempaan duurimuotoon. Kertosäkeen melodian ja sanoituksen valmistuessa mieleen juolahti huutomaiset jutut melodian väliin.

Kertosäe syntyi paljon ennen kuin itse biisi, ja osittain säkeistötkin. Koiran kanssa lenkkeillessä ehtii ajatella kaikenlaista, tällä kertaa ihmisten kiirettä, ahneutta ja raha perässä juoksemista - ei "nähdä metsää puilta". Aikanaan, kun saatiin kasaan raakavedos sävellyksestä, niin jotenkin oravanpyörä vaan sopi siihen fiilikseen.

“Oravanpyörä” is the opening track of the Tiimalasi album.

The verse needed a touch of a thrash-like feel, so we decided to try using a B diminished chord there. For the instrumental part, we wanted a descending direction that would work well with part A. The chorus, on the other hand, had to stand out completely, so we took it into a brighter major key instead. When the melody and lyrics for the chorus came together, we got the idea to add some shout-like bits between the melody lines.

The chorus actually came to life long before the rest of the song—and partly even before the verses. Walking the dog gives you time to think about all sorts of things; this time, it was about people’s rush, greed, and the chase for money—failing to “see the forest for the trees.” Eventually, when we had a rough draft of the composition, “oravanpyörä” (the hamster wheel) just felt like it perfectly captured that mood.
