Why is Western Europe warmer than Canada even though they are at similar latitudes? Why is Russia and Eastern Europe colder than Western Europe? Why do noreasters form in the Atlantic Ocean? The answer to all of these is the Gulf Stream: the convergence of warm water from the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea which move northward up the American coast all the way to Western Europe.
