Maha Pada Yatra means a sacred pilgrimage undertaken entirely on bare foot.
It is not just walking—it is an act of complete surrender, devotion, and discipline to Lord Sri Dharmasasta Ayyappa Swami.
Devotees follow this path believing that Lord Ayyappa Himself walked this very route after defeating Mahishi, on His way to establish Himself at Sabarimala.
Walking barefoot through forests and hills symbolizes:
Humility
Equality among devotees
Victory of Dharma over Adharma
🛤️ Traditional Maha Pada Yatra Route
1️⃣ Erumeli
Erumeli is the starting point of the Maha Pada Yatra.
Here, devotees perform the Petta Thullal, marking the divine victory of Lord Ayyappa.
2️⃣ Azhutha River
The Azhutha River is where pilgrims wash and purify themselves before entering the sacred forest path.
3️⃣ Inchippara
Inchippara is the place where Lord Ayyappa is believed to have rested and placed His weapons.
Devotees stop here to pray and regain strength.
4️⃣ Karimala
Karimala is the most difficult and spiritually powerful stretch of the yatra.
The steep climb tests the faith, endurance, and patience of devotees.
5️⃣ Sabarimala
The journey ends at Sabarimala, the divine abode of Lord Ayyappa.
Reaching the temple after the long foot pilgrimage is considered the ultimate blessing.
🙏 Closing Line
Maha Pada Yatra is not about reaching Sabarimala,
it is about transforming the devotee from within.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa 🙏
