Decades of robotic exploration of Mars has revealed a planet that was once warmer and wetter than in the current climate. There is compelling evidence that ancient watery environments on Mars could have been habitable for microbial life. A driving goal of robotic exploration of Mars has been to look for evidence of life that may be present today or in the ancient past. This presentation will summarize this exploration and examine the role of future human explorers in the search for life on Mars.
