THOUGHTS
Thor stories (37 in total) come back with a vengeance in this portion of the list! Starting with Thor 146, the B Story features short tales of the Inhumans as we learn about their origin, including Black Bolt's backstory (148). In Thor 159, we learn more about the link between the Thunder God and Dr. Donald Blake. Vince Coletta consistently kills it every month with his amazing Thor covers and its even more evident when you see a string of covers in this video. Meanwhile, In Spidey's world, we witness the debut of a classic villain, Kingpin (ASM 50)--One of the most feared, dangerous and powerful crime lords in the Marvel Universe. His role as an antagonist in Daredevil can't come soon enough. Iron Man also debuts a new villain in Whiplash (ToS 97). In the Avengers comics--POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT!!--a lot of changes take place, including Captain America's exit from the regular lineup (47), Dane Whitman's role as the Black Knight (48), Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch taking a hiatus (49), and Hercules' departure (50). One of the new titles that makes its debut on the list is Marvel Superheroes, which begins printing new stories for the first time with Issue 12, featuring the debut of Captain Marvel--appropriately named after DC's trademark period lapsed. Who doesn't like that original white and green costume!? The following issue marked the debut of Carol Danvers (MSH 13), who would go on to become Ms. Marvel years later. Eventually, in just a few short months, Captain Marvel would get his own series, which ends this list as our 800th Marvel story. Another important milestone in our reading order was the branching off of certain titles. In 1968, while selling 50 million comic books a year, company founder Marvin Goodman revised the constraining distribution arrangement with Independent News he had reached under duress during the Atlas years, allowing him now to release as many titles as needed. As a result, Tales to Astonish 101 would turn into Incredible Hulk 102, carrying on until 2010. Sub-Mariner would get his own comic reverting back to Issue 1. Likewise, Tales of Suspense 99 would turn into Captain America 100 and Iron Man 1 would begin. These comics would continue through 2011 & 2013!
