Trump’s SAVE America Act vs India’s SIR: Voter Rights Debate Across Two Democracies | The Hans India

Описание: India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and US President Donald Trump’s proposed SAVE America Act have sparked a debate over voter identification, citizenship requirements and electoral transparency in the world’s two largest democracies.

Trump has argued that stricter proof-of-citizenship requirements are needed for voter registration in the United States. The proposed legislation has faced opposition in the US Senate, while the debate over voter eligibility and election procedures continues.

The controversy has also reached India-US relations. US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal raised concerns about India’s voter-list revision exercise, drawing a response from India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, who defended India’s democratic institutions and electoral process.

The programme also examines claims about Indian-American voters, allegations of voter-list removals, and American singer Mary Millben’s remarks about Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke and alleged foreign funding. These claims remain contested and should be distinguished from verified facts.
