I got dropped in a remote forest location by a lake for 24 hours with ZERO FOOD. If I wanted to eat, I had to hunt and forage everything myself. No backup plan. No emergency rations. Just survival skills and determination.
Could I catch a rabbit, forage wild edibles, and survive until pickup? This was one of the most challenging experiences of my life.
🏕️ THE CHALLENGE:
→ 24 hours completely stranded by remote forest lake
→ ZERO food packed - empty food bag
→ Must hunt rabbit with snares to eat
→ Forage wild edibles as supplement
→ Build shelter from scratch
→ Survive weather changes
→ Complete isolation until pickup
🐰 WHAT HAPPENED:
→ Built tarp shelter quickly (racing daylight)
→ Set 3 rabbit snares on active trails
→ Foraged wild berries, greens, and cattail roots
→ Waited anxiously for rabbits (most active at dusk)
→ Weather suddenly changed - rain storm hit
→ Checked snares at dusk - CAUGHT A RABBIT!
→ Processed and cooked rabbit over campfire
→ Survived night and morning until pickup
→ Challenge COMPLETED successfully!
🎯 SURVIVAL SKILLS SHOWN:
→ Rabbit snare setting (legal and humane trapping)
→ Reading animal signs and trails
→ Wild edible plant identification
→ Shelter building with tarp
→ Fire building in changing weather
→ Game processing and butchering
→ Campfire cooking techniques
→ Water sourcing from lake
→ Overnight wilderness survival
🍽️ WHAT I CAUGHT & FORAGED:
→ 1 rabbit (trapped humanely with snares)
→ Wild berries (identified safe species)
→ Edible greens (dandelion, plantain)
→ Cattail roots (starchy, filling)
→ All cooked over open fire
📍 Location: Remote Forest Lake (undisclosed)
⏱️ Duration: 24 hours completely alone
🎒 Food Brought: ABSOLUTELY NONE
🐰 Success: 1 rabbit caught, multiple wild edibles foraged
Snare trapping is a traditional survival skill. Always check your local laws before attempting any hunting or trapping.
🌿 FORAGING SAFETY:
⚠️ CRITICAL: I only forage plants I'm 100% certain are safe. I've studied wild edibles for years. NEVER eat wild plants without proper identification knowledge and training.
Safe plants shown:
Wild berries (positively identified species)
Dandelion greens (common, easily identified)
Plantain leaves (distinct parallel veins)
Cattail roots (unmistakable plant)
When in doubt, DON'T EAT IT. One mistake can be fatal.
☔ THE WEATHER CHALLENGE:
The rain storm that hit wasn't expected! It added real complication:
→ Had to protect fire while processing rabbit
→ Shelter became critical (stayed dry!)
→ Made cooking more challenging
→ Tested my preparedness
→ But also provided fresh water
This is REAL survival - nature doesn't follow your plan!
🦌 WHY THIS CHALLENGE?
This isn't about showing off - it's about reconnecting with ancestral skills that kept humans alive for thousands of years. When you have to work THIS HARD for food, you gain profound respect for:
→ Where our food comes from
→ The effort behind every meal
→ Indigenous survival knowledge
→ Our place in nature's ecosystem
→ The value of every calorie
That rabbit fed me for 24 hours. I wasted nothing and was deeply grateful.
Always research and follow your local hunting, trapping, and camping regulations!
⚠️ SAFETY DISCLAIMER:
This was done with:
→ Proper training and years of experience
→ Emergency communication device (not shown)
→ Someone knew my exact location
→ Scheduled pickup time arranged
→ First aid knowledge and supplies
→ Understanding of local wildlife risks
DO NOT attempt survival challenges without:
✓ Proper training
✓ Legal permissions
✓ Safety protocols
✓ Emergency backup plans
✓ Knowledge of area hazards
