For decades, the people of Hwange have lived in the shadow of industry — breathing its dust, hearing its blasts, and feeling its heat. The coal that fuels the nation’s power stations has also brought air pollution, dried rivers, and forced wildlife closer to human settlements.
In a recent workshop organized by the Centre for Natural Resource Governance, residents gathered to discuss what a just energy transition truly means for Hwange.
They raised concerns over who really benefits from this transition — the communities who live with the impacts, or the corporations profiting from extraction?
