The short answer is "incentives." But the reasons these incentives exist differ between groups who already know AGI is a risk but don't say it (AGI lab leaders, for example) and those who don't talk about it because they're ignorant of the risks (politicians, citizens).

In this video essay I explain why AGI risk isn't discussed even among those who know it is an eminent threat, and what levers might be pulled to catalyze a wide scale "opening of the dam" for AGI risk discourse.
