EAM S Jaishankar briefs Rajya Sabha on West Asia tensions, calls for restraint and diplomacy

Описание: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Rajya Sabha on the escalating situation in West Asia, expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. He said India has consistently urged restraint, de-escalation and a return to dialogue and diplomacy while emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and respecting the sovereignty of all states.

Jaishankar noted that the conflict has disrupted normal life and economic activity across the region and raised concerns about energy security, trade and supply chains. With nearly one crore Indians living and working in Gulf countries, the government is closely monitoring the safety of the Indian community and coordinating with regional governments.

He said advisories were issued earlier urging Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran and encouraging those present there to leave. The government has facilitated relocation of Indian students in Tehran and helped nationals cross borders where possible. Nearly 67,000 Indians have already returned to India through coordinated efforts involving embassies and special flight arrangements.

The minister also informed the House that the Prime Minister has spoken to several leaders in the region to ensure the safety of Indians, while India continues diplomatic engagement with key stakeholders.
