In this video I show how to repair and adjust a portable hand control.
Hand controls are devices to operate the accelerator and/or brake on a vehicle manually, using the driver's hand rather than the driver's foot. Push/Pull operation is push forward (toward the brake pedal) to brake and pull toward the rear to accelerate. Typically people who have suffered a spinal cord injury. Many paraplegics and quadriplegics need their vehicles to be equipped with hand controls in order to operate. Hand controls allow people with physical disabilities the ability to drive accessible vehicles independently using alternative methods. Hand controls allow the driver to operate both the brake and gas pedal using levers that are typically mounted below the steering wheel and attach to the pedals themselves.

For the portable hand control I show in the video depending on the repair or adjustment you will need a hex key set and an Allen key (#3) depending what type of adjustment is needed. I am replacing two broken "claws" in which I will only be using the Allen Key. Portable hand hand controls are hand controls that can be installed and uninstalled very easily from one vehicle to another.

Are Hand Controls Legal?
Yes. It is absolutely legal to drive a car using hand controls. As mentioned earlier, the disabled driver first needs to get a prescription to take the evaluation. Then, the specialist needs to determine that the use of hand controls is necessary and that the driver is capable of safely using them.

Here's a breakdown of some of the best hand controls for disabled drivers:
Push/rock. This allows the driver to apply both the accelerator and the brakes by hand.
Push/right angle.
Push/pull.
Push/rotate.
Electronic-assisted hand controls.

About me : Twenty two years ago I suffered a spinal cord injury on a cold dark November night. It was diagnosed I had a T-12 incomplete compressional fracture. Since day one of my accident I have had and continue to have an enormous amount of support from my family, friends and community. What is paraplegia? Paralysis of the lower half of your body, including both legs, is called paraplegia. Paralysis of the arms and legs is quadriplegia. Most paralysis is due to strokes or injuries such as spinal cord injury or a broken neck.
Can a paraplegic walk? While the stereotype of a paraplegic is of someone in a wheelchair who cannot move his or her arms or legs, cannot feel anything below the level of injury, and cannot walk, paraplegics actually have a range of capabilities that may change over time, both as their health evolves and their physical therapy helps them.
Can paralyzed people walk again? Many factors play a role in regaining the ability to walk after a spinal cord injury. Fortunately, it is possible for many SCI survivors. There is potential to walk again after SCI because the spinal cord has the ability to reorganize itself and make adaptive changes called neuroplasticity
What is Incomplete paraplegia?Incomplete paraplegia is an outcome of spinal cord injury that describes paralysis, and potentially loss of sensation, of the lower body.Because undamaged neural pathways exist when the injury is incomplete, it may be possible for individuals to recover weakened functions through intensive rehabilitation. What is Complete paralysis mean? Complete paralysis is when you can't move or control your paralyzed muscles at all. You also may not be able to feel anything in those muscles. Partial or incomplete paralysis is when you still have some feeling in,and possibly control over, your paralyzed muscles.This is sometimes called paresis.
