The hype about Reaper DAW is real and solid, a short test

Описание: Yesterday a well known composer approached me and told me why Reaper is next level for writing and composing music of any possible kind, i was laughing in the first place. The DAW for a Freelancer or Solo Composer costs only 60 Dollars. Also because Reaper looked like trash after install.

However my Laughing was gone within 30 minutes....Is the hype real and legit? Yes it is. It doesn't matter if a modern Pop Song, or a Cinematic Orchestral Piece. Reaper has a ugly interface when you freshly download it, but its full customizable with the REA Browser Plugin (a script you need to download from the reaper database) and a small but growing community. Even Famous Composers recently migrated or took a look into it.
You can add all functions from Cubase or Ableton or from Logic into Reaper, you can even script your own functions. Even a Lookalike Theme of each DAW can be installed. What about articulation systems like in Dorico Pro for any professional sound library?Of course there is a script for it. You can write music almost on pair like in Dorico Pro or Cubase. Its absolutly crazy. Of course the nice Engraving tools from Dorico Pro are not there.

The biggest advantage is you can throw hundreds of VSTs at the same time into the DAW without having an impact on Latency nor big CPU loss.

Ableton, Bitwig and Cubase will loose in direct performance battle.

Ableton was able to render 43 BBC Violin Leaders with a different Spitfire Air Reverb for each. -latency 25ms

Cubase crashed multiple times on 33 -latency 64ms

Bitwig at 55 -latency 69ms

Reaper had a CPU usage of 87%max at 150 of these, plus addional compressors, equalizers and multiband compression and a Video Playback in 4K. -latency 69ms

tested on Windows 11, 128 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X, 24C/48T, 3.80-4.50GHz,

Reapers con is that it comes almost blank after install. You need to install the REA Browser and a theme in the first place. You can fully customize Reaper and write music in minutes with Notations combined with all the advantages of a modern DAW like Cubase or Ableton. Its seriously mindblowing.
Below my 8 hour Result, a fully customized Reaper...i added some Izotope plugins for mastering which increased the latency. but still below 100.
