Opening Song: "Beast of Burden" Rolling Stones
Rolling Stones Records
Peak: #8(1 week) Date: 11.11.1978
Lots of disco this year, and a great year if your last name ended in"Gibb". Things somewhat get softer as the list goes on.
#69, #35, #13, and #11 all come from the Grease soundtrack, while #19, #6, #4, #2 are from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, making this a year for those two soundtracks to shine, especially for the latter. Furthermore, the Bee Gees also dominating in song-writing, with Barry Gibb having writing credits on #45, #19, #14, #11, #8, #6, #4, #2, and #1 (incredible!), while his brothers Robin and Maurice receive writing credits on #19, #6, #4, #2 and #1. Youngest brother Andy also co-wrote #8 and #1, but not #45.
MINOR CORRECTIONS: The chart was “frozen” the week of December 31, 1977. This leads to some of the peaks being longer then what they listed here as such as:
#90- #5(4 weeks)
#89- #12(4 weeks)
#61- #3(4 weeks)
#57- #4(3 weeks)
#6- #1(3 weeks)
Since the week ending 30th December, 1978 was also "frozen", #88 was also #5 for 4 weeks and not 3. I corrected this by the 1980s year-ends.
