“The title M stands for Midnight Song, a poem extracted from Friedrich Nietzsche’s most influential work: Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Nietzsche set great store by the knowledge contained in the human body: “There is more wisdom in the body that in the deepest philosophy”. In M, I’m focussing on the power of transformation that the body possesses. Under an electronic soundscape interweaving compositions by Gustav Mahler - who used the same poem on his third symphony - five male dancers present their entire humanity on stage: their physical and mental engagement, their power and vulnerability, in all their paradoxes.
This compact version, which I made specially for Shortcuts XL, showcases the core of the original full length performance.” - Samir Calixto.
