The Federal University Oye-Ekiti marked a significant milestone as its newly established Innovation Hub commenced operations with a hands-on workshop titled "Python for AI: Data Science and Machine Learning." The event, held on 14 May 2025, attracted students, staff, and tech enthusiasts, both physically at the hub and via live streaming on the university’s YouTube channel.

The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Opoola, reiterated the university management’s dedication to fostering innovation and digital transformation. He emphasized that the FUOYE Innovation Hub was established to provide students and staff with cutting-edge skills in emerging technologies, positioning FUOYE as a leader in research and technological advancement.

Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (SPRIL), Professor J.O. Ogunwole, in his message, encouraged students and staff to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the hub. He stated, "The world is moving rapidly into the age of artificial intelligence and automation. FUOYE is committed to equipping its community with the skills needed to thrive in this digital era."

The workshop featured an intensive training session facilitated by Dr. C.T. Dombo, who taught participants the fundamentals of Python programming, data science, and machine learning. Attendees engaged in practical exercises, including data analysis, visualization, and building predictive models—an experience that many described as "eye-opening and highly impactful."

In his closing remarks, the Director of Innovation and Digital Technology, Prof OS Ayanda, expressed gratitude to the attendees, particularly the students and staff who participated actively. He also commended the dedicated team at the FUOYE Innovation Hub for their efforts in organizing a successful maiden event.

Encouraging students to stay engaged, he said, "This is just the beginning. The Innovation Hub will host more workshops, hackathons, and training sessions. I urge every student to be part of this movement—learn, innovate, and contribute to the technological growth of FUOYE and Nigeria at large."

The event ended on a high note, with participants expressing excitement about future programs at the hub. With this successful kickoff, the FUOYE Innovation Hub has set the stage for more groundbreaking initiatives in the coming months.
