The "Advanced 10" Shortcuts List
i. Paste Special Menu (Ctrl + Alt + V)
a. The Power: Instead of just pasting, this lets you paste only values, only formulas, or even multiply/add numbers instantly.
ii. Toggle Formulas (Ctrl + ~)
a. The Power: Instantly shows all formulas in your sheet instead of their results. Great for auditing and finding errors.
iii. The "Go To" Special (Ctrl + G then Alt + S)
a. The Power: This is a life-saver. It lets you select only blank cells, only cells with constants, or only cells with errors in a massive dataset.
iv. Edit the Active Cell (F2)
a. The Power: Stop double-clicking with the mouse. Hit F2 to jump right into the formula bar of the selected cell.
v. Insert New Worksheet (Shift + F11)
a. The Power: Don't reach for the mouse to click the "+" icon. Shift + F11 adds a new sheet in a split second.
vi. Auto-Fit Column Width (Alt + H, O, I)
a. The Power: This is a sequential shortcut. Press them one after another. It instantly adjusts the column width to fit the longest text inside.
vii. Flash Fill (Ctrl + E)
a. The Power: If a complex formula is giving an error, this opens a window that lets you watch Excel calculate it one step at a time to find where it breaks.
viii. Lock Cells (Absolute Reference) (F4 inside a formula)
a. The Power: When writing a formula, hitting F4 cycles through $A$1, A$1, and $A1. It's the fastest way to lock your cell references.
ix. Open the "Insert Function" Dialog (Shift + F3)
a. The Power: Can't remember the exact syntax of a function? Shift + F3 pulls up the search and helper tool for every function in Excel.
b. and hit F4. It’s a huge time saver."
x. Hide Rows/Columns (Ctrl + 9 / Ctrl + 0)
a. Scenario: Cleaning up your view for a meeting.
b. Action: Ctrl + 9 hides a row, Ctrl + 0 hides a column.
