Описание: It has been eight years since the tragic crash of PIA flight PK-661 in Havelian. On December 7, 2016, the national airline’s ATR aircraft crashed near Havelian, claiming the lives of religious scholar Junaid Jamshed, his wife, and 48 other passengers.

According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) report, the crash was caused by an engine malfunction during the flight. The report revealed that one of the engine’s blades broke, disrupting the power turbine shaft's rotation. Fuel contamination in the engine oil led to a failure in the propeller's electronic control, resulting in the crash.

The entire nation mourned this tragedy, and rescue operations were launched immediately. The remains of the passengers were transferred to Islamabad, where they were identified through DNA testing and then handed over to their families. This process took about a month.

PIA flight PK-661 was on the Islamabad-Chitral-Peshawar-Islamabad route. On the day of the crash, the plane traveled from Islamabad to Chitral and then headed towards Peshawar, but crashed in the mountainous area of Havelian.

Chitral is a remote tourist district, attracting both domestic and international visitors. Most of the passengers on PK-661 were from Chitral and were traveling to Islamabad. Junaid Jamshed, who had left music to pursue a path of religious preaching, was aboard the flight with his wife after touring Chitral.

The aircraft, an ATR 42-500, was delivered to Pakistan International Airlines in 2007. It had met with an accident at Lahore Airport in 2009 but was repaired and returned to service. In September 2014, the same plane encountered another issue while flying from Skardu to Islamabad, but it was safely landed that time.
