In about 2000 Squier released the V1 of this range (there will be a video later on one I own) and about a year or two later they upgraded the Stagemaster to this - no scratchplate, and locking FR style trem, matching headstock and bolt on neck. Small fret markers 25.5" scale and quite a flat fret board. A bit of a superstrat look, but at a great price. I actually own quite a few of these - mostly the V4 (I think) - but that's for another video.

It was really a mess when I picked it up - missing pickups and scratched to hell, so I decided to continue that "vibe" and picked out the worst mismatched colours for the pickup I could find, and added a horrid "speed stripe".
The pickup is a £10 green, Chinese Invader / Super Distortion copy - and it is surprisingly good. Most pickups at £10 are dog dirt... My favourite customisation is the "nob ease" rubberised knobs. In the late 80's Kramer Birettas (sp?) were all the craze and customising your guitar was essential. I couldn't afford any of those, but I could afford these knobs... They have since gone out of business, but they are a fun item that should come back.

Around this time (2003?) they had to change the name to Showmaster as another company had the trademark to that name - but essentially they are the same guitar.

If you can find one cheap - please stay away from the V1 (natural headstock, not 24 frets, vintage style trem) as they really were not as good, at all.

I have this in my lounge as a go to guitar - with great sustain, excellent neck, and nasty enough not to care if it falls over or gets damaged.
