In this video we explore the remains of the 8-mile Bawtry to Haxey Light Railway. Originally conceived as the Tickhill Light Railway, to carry coal to Haxey and thence to Goole and the Humber, it never fulfilled this purpose, becoming a small agricultural branch line.
One section of it was barely used, with rumours that a section was ripped up a few years after it was laid.
The line started in Yorkshire, before travelling through Nottinghamshire and ending in Lincolnshire. We cannot think of any complete line as short that covered three counties.
Finally closed in 1965, the route of the line is only visible in disjointed sections, with very few artefacts remaining on the ground.
We spent a few days exploring this lost line, and hope you find what we discovered to be of interest.
