How to replace an air conditioner compressor in a 1999 to 2003 7.3L diesel. This truck is a 2001 F250 7.3 diesel.
If your air conditioner compressor is grinding and making noise in your engine you'll probably want to know how to replace it. In this video I am going to attempt to replace the pulley first, but in the end I do end up replacing the entire air conditioner compressor.
This job required unbolting the coolant reservoir, releasing the serpentine belt and unbolting the compressor.
If you still have coolant in your system you will need to recover that coolant prior to opening the coolant lines. This will likely require taking the vehicle to a professional, unless you know someone who happens to have coolant recovery equipment including a vacuum pump, manifold and canisters.
The 7.3L diesel is one of the most reliable engines Ford put in their trucks. They are known to last well over 200,000 miles easily. The engine in this truck has over 270,000 miles on it and it is still going strong.
