Master Zhu XiangHua (朱向华) talks about Silk Reeling (ChanSi Gong) 纏絲功. It is presented in two parts.
Silk reeling is a foundational movement and skill in Chen Style Taijiquan. A whole-body movement that over time, develops one’s understanding of the internal and external components and their interdependence.
Zhu Xianghua is a 20th-generation Chen-style Taijiquan master and the principal instructor of the Zhu family Taiji school in Chenjiagou, Henan Province, China. He is a son of Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai (朱天才). In 2021, Zhu Xianghua was named a representative inheritor of Henan Province’s Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
He holds the rank of 7th Duan (7th Dan) in Chinese martial arts, signifying an advanced, elite master level. He is widely respected for his command of traditional Chen theory and technique, particularly silk-reeling practice (缠丝功, Chán Sī Gōng) and fājìn.
This marked his first visit to the United States, during which he visited multiple schools, reconnecting with teachers, former students and longtime friends. It was a rare opportunity to visit with him, ask questions, and engage in deep discussion about Chen-style Taijiquan.
