Storyline:
Beautiful Jenny Hager finds she can always get what she wants from the men in the 1820's port of Bangor, Maine. Freed by his death from her drunkard father she soon manoeuvres herself into a position to marry a middle-aged monied local businessman. Though she often uses his money to do good, she continues to consider all other men fair game.

This film directed by Edgar G. Ulmer capitalizes on Lamarr's beautiful screen presence and acting abilities about a woman who happens to be a daughter of a drunkard named Jennifer Hager. She intends to rise from poverty by using her beauty and manipulative skills for rich men to succumb under her spell,in New England during the 1820's.

This is definitely a nice film particularly for Lamarr's fans as it suits what the actress is known for as being "the most beautiful woman in the world" during her prime.It also exhibits her above average acting skills especially as a misunderstood beauty.

As for the story of the film,it serves as a cautionary tale especially when a person grows up without a mother particularly in Jenny's case.
