Welcome to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden's 12th Annual Conservation Symposium, presented by the Nakashima-Rennie family.
Getting things started, Denise Knapp, Ph.D., director of conservation and research, brings us together to celebrate the incredible world of seeds and their vital role in restoring habitats and conserving rare species. Our 2025 theme, “Seeds of Change: Conservation Through Diversity,” explores the fascinating diversity of seeds, emphasizing their importance as living resources crucial to our planet’s ecological health.
The symposium also celebrates Peggy Olwell, the National Plant Conservation and Restoration Program lead for the Bureau of Land Management, as the recipient of the 2025 John C. Pritzlaff Conservation Award. With over 40 years of leadership in native plant conservation and restoration, Olwell’s keynote address shares the story of her journey to conserve native plant diversity and preserve seed for habitat restoration across the nation.
About Santa Barbara Botanic Garden's 12th Annual Conservation Symposium
At the Garden's annual conservation symposium, we bring conservation heroes and engaging experts together with students, land managers, conservation practitioners, and educators. Over the course of a day, we examine one pressing environmental challenge from various angles, and then a panel discussion further illuminates how we can all contribute to a better future.
The 2025 Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Conservation Symposium was presented by the Nakashima-Rennie Family and sponsored by S&S Seeds | Cox Communications | Barbareño | The Steward Hotel
