Hey everyone, Lazy Money UK here. If you're thinking of starting a YouTube channel as a side hustle to earn extra income, this video will help you succeed.
I finally reached the requirements for monetisation at the start of 2024, and was accepted into the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP). This means that I earn money when my audience is shown adverts on my videos. Now I can share my success story as a small YouTuber, plus tips and tricks to help you do the same.
★★★How to make money on YouTube★★★
Channel owners can receive a share of the profits YouTube makes by displaying adverts before, during, and after their videos. You channel must meet certain requirements to enable earning from adverts.
★★★What are the requirements for monetisation on YouTube?★★★
The YouTube monetisation requirements are very specific. To get paid for adverts shown on your videos, your channel must have 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours within a 365 day window. There's an intermediate "fake monetisation" stage at 500 subscribers and 3000 annual watch hours. YouTube wants you to believe that you can make money before you qualify for ads, but this is misleading. Without advert revenue, the content creator depends on the generous support of their audience. The final stage of the monetisation process is to verify your home address using a PIN code that YouTube sends you by mail. Assuming your channel doesn't violate YouTube's content guidelines, then you will be approved for monetisation.
★★★How much do small YouTubers make?★★★
If you want to know much I get paid on YouTube as a small channel owner, check out the data shown in the video. My channel currently earns between £1-3 pounds daily. My best result so far was £5 in one day.
★★★Is it worth making a YouTube channel?★★★
I believe it's highly valuable to build a semi-passive income source, which continues to earn money in the time that you're not working on it. YouTube is a scalable income source, meaning you can increase the amount you earn without increasing the time you spend working on it. This will come naturally as your audience grows, and you figure out what kind of content they want to see, leading to an increase in views. The scalability of YouTube as a revenue source makes content creation one of the best work from home opportunities.
★★★What should your YouTube channel be about?★★★
Some influencers suggest making bland and impersonal content, perhaps generated / automated by AI, or copied from other uploaders. I disagree with this approach. You'll only be motivated to keep making videos in the unpaid phase of your channel if you genuinely care about the subject matter. You want the audience to become emotionally invested in your passion, so they'll want to support your work with repeat visits to your channel. They might even back your channel with donations on platforms like Patreon, Ko-Fi or on YouTube itself with Super Chats, Super Thanks, and channel memberships.
★★★What if you have no experience making videos?★★★
Making money on YouTube as a beginner doesn't need to be complicated. There's no correlation between the skill level involved in making a video, and the number of views it gets. You've most likely observed this, when a short meme video with millions of views is recommended on your home page. Since YouTube is intended for free home-made content, the audience has a greater tolerance for low production values compared to paid streaming platforms. A lot of channels succeed by doing something simple, like recording from a script and then illustrating their speech with drawings of stickmen.
★★★How to increase YouTube watch hours for monetisation★★★
If you're struggling to reach 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours, here are some tips to boost your results and get monetised quickly. I would definitely use these strategies if I was growing a YouTube channel from scratch:
Figure out what your audience really wants by using the Analytics section of YouTube Creator Studio
Use concise titles and thumbnails which clearly explain what the audience will gain from watching your video
Make longer length videos, so you can gain more watch time per view
Make evergreen content, as opposed to time-sensitive content, so your videos can continue to gain watch hours in the long term
★★★Thanks for watching★★★
