Padangbai is a village in Manggis District, Karangasem Regency, on the eastern side of Bali, Indonesia. This town serves as a ferry port for trips to Lombok, Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands, and other islands in West Nusa Tenggara. The name "Padangbai" was actually given by the Dutch. Originally, this village was called Padang. Since it was located in a shallow bay with calm waters, the Dutch, in their efforts to colonize Bali, built a barracks and a port there. They called Padang Bay "Padang Baai," with baai meaning "bay" in Dutch. Besides being a port town, it also offers tourists a charming and peaceful small beach town vibe nestled in a bay. Nearby, there's also the Blue Lagoon, a hidden gem that’s rarely visited by tourists. At Blue Lagoon, tourists usually go fishing, swimming, and snorkeling.
If you're looking for a quieter and more peaceful getaway, Padangbai might be the perfect destination for you. Especially when walking around, I noticed that most of the tourists were seniors, probably enjoying their retirement or golden years.
