The BBVA Microfinance Foundation has been tirelessly working for over 15 years in five Latin American countries, supporting more than 6 million vulnerable entrepreneurs. This event marked another step forward in their mission to leverage digital tools for positive change."
But, before we delve into the digital initiatives, let's talk about Queen Letizia's fashion choice for the occasion. The Queen opted for a stunning two-piece set, featuring high-waisted, slightly flared straight-cut pants with a retro aesthetic. The ensemble is a Hugo Boss."
To complement the chic pants, Queen Letizia paired them with a timeless white blouse, a favorite basic garment from her closet. This Carolina Herrera piece boasts puffed midi sleeves and a large bow, adding an elegant touch to the ensemble."
And, of course, let's not forget the accessories! Queen Letizia completed her look with earrings from the Gold&Roses brand, Jardín del Aire model. Crafted from rose gold, diamonds, and emeralds, these exquisite earrings come with a price tag of 1,885 euros."
The event began with the screening of a video on the digitalization of BBVAMF and the Queen's words stating that "... At a time when artificial intelligence and big data analysis are being debated, there are millions of people for whom an application, geolocation, voice recognition, for example, manage to kick-start their way of life thanks to the granting of a small loan. And thus they guarantee their survival and that of their children. I'm talking about decent housing, the necessary training, basic health services..."
This was followed by a panel entitled: "Microfinance in the Digital Age", with the participation of BBVAMF's Director of Innovation for Inclusive Growth, Gabriela Eguidazu; the manager of the Operations, Technology and Channels Division of Financiera Confianza, Yuri Dolorier; the president of Banco Adopem, Mercedes Canalda; and the manager of Innovation and Digital Transformation at Microserfin, Olivier Calvo.
This was followed by a screening of the video "Life Story of the Entrepreneur" and a dialogue began in which BBVAMF entrepreneur María Marlene Jorge and Confianza Financial Advisor Rony Rubén Sulca took part in the video "Heroes", who explained first-hand how digitalization is already part of their day-to-day lives and how it has been a fundamental lever for progressing and improving their lives.
The event concluded with a speech by the CEO of the BBVA Microfinance Foundation, Javier M. Flores.
Also accompanying Her Majesty the Queen were the Secretary of State for Economy and Business Support, Gonzalo García Andrés; the Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Spain, Eduardo Ávila; representatives of Ibero-American countries in which BBVAMF operates and trustees of the BBVA Microfinance Foundation; and guests.
Technology as a tool against inequality, poverty and social exclusion.
In a world where digital transformation is a fact, a third of the world's population is still not connected, according to the latest data from ITU, the United Nations specialized technology agency. Behind this data are 2,600 million people who cannot access the Internet and who have lower levels of education, lower incomes, live in rural areas, are older and are mostly women.
Bridging the digital divide to bridge others that affect the most vulnerable people has become a global challenge and a challenge for entities working for inclusive, egalitarian and sustainable development.
The BBVA Microfinance Foundation's (BBVAMF) commitment to digital transformation makes it possible to bring technology closer to three million low-income entrepreneurs in five Latin American countries. The aim of this event is to show how the foundation supports them in bridging the digital divide and at the same time, reducing the economic and social divide.
More than 90% of the Foundation's loans are granted using the app that each advisor has on their tablet and which also works offline. In addition, the advisors rely on geolocation to be able to locate people living in remote and hard-to-reach areas and offer them tailor-made products and services.
BBVAMF is a pioneer in using technological advances for inclusion, equality, social justice and sustainable development. It already has 800,000 digital entrepreneurs (they use mobile banking, apps, etc.) who in 2022 signed up for more than 150,000 online products.
