172 is a bidirectional trunk route, connecting Choa Chu Kang and Boon Lay. It passes by many uniformed camps along Old Choa Chu Kang Road and Jalan Bahar. It also faces slight road amendment along Jalan Bahar due to the relocation of Lim Chu Kang Road back in June 2025.
