Residents in Pakistan’s Bajur district described injuries after cross-border strikes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Several homes and structures were damaged as mortar shells hit a village and parts of Bajur town. Pakistan’s defence minister said the country had run out of “patience” and considered the situation an “open war”. The escalation followed reported Afghan cross-border attacks and Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia. The violence came months after a ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey.
