CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There is new research in the American Journal of Medicine on caffeine and its possible link to migraines.
If you suffer from migraines, you likely know that many of the over-the-counter medications have some caffeine in them because a little bit of caffeine has been shown to make a difference. But now, a new study says getting too much can actually trigger one.
The study looked at nearly 100 known migraine sufferers. Results showed one to two servings of a caffeinated beverage did not impact migraine risk. However, when people had three or more servings a day, there was an increased risk of suffering a migraine headache.
Serving sizes for coffee and tea were measured between 6-8 ounces, while servings for soda were measured at 12 ounces. Headache specialists at the Cleveland Clinic say when it comes to lifestyle choices that can impact migraines, it's vital to look at both caffeine intake as well as other triggers.
Certain foods can also bring on a migraine. Other factors, such as weather changes, specifically when there's a large, sudden shift in temperature, will trigger migraines for some.
