Porthcawl's Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched to assist a surfer who had been swept around the point and out to sea at Rest Bay. He was being assisted by a paddleboarder. The lifeboat was quickly on scene bringing the surfer onboard. The paddleboarder made his own way back to the main bay.
If you find yourself caught in the current at Rest Bay and can't get back into the main bay, stay with your board and signal to the shore for assistance and await the lifeboat - attempting to get out on the rocks is likely to result in injury from needle sharp rocks and/or the waves breaking onto the rocks.
When surfing at Rest Bay outside of the season and hours when the beach is lifeguarded by RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales stay to the golf club side of the slipway.
