Описание: Welcome back to our newest 5 Play Challenge, with five plays involving rebounding. We will show five rebounding plays three different times giving you ample opportunity to make your ruling. First, watch it in live time. Second, we'll zoom in and slow it down to watch again. Third, we will provide an analysis of what happened and reveal the correct ruling. These videos, as always, are dedicated to educating officials on the rules of basketball.

The 5 play challenge is not set up to explain the rule in detail but instead simply references rules as they are written and guidelines to help appropriately apply those rules. Every rebounding video we show in this segment is clipped from actual footage of high school basketball games, involving high school athletes. The goal is to provide as much possible information to assist the way we see rebounding plays in the future. The more plays we see, with detailed explanation, the better we will get at identifying the correct ruling more consistently.

On this rebound, a foul was called on the player going "over the back" of his opponent. But was there any contact? Watch and see.

Pushing foul was called on the shooting team. but it doesn't appear the arms of the player did any pushing. Was this play ruled correctly? You'll have to watch to find out.

No call was made on the rebounding play as the rebounding player easily caught the ball. But when contact happens in the head from a swinging arm, shouldn't there be a foul?

Again, no whistle on this play but a lot of holding and grabbing seems to be going on between players. Was there any contact that affected a possible successful rebound?

Watching video clips is a good way to hone your basketball officiating skills and retain your learning for future use. We believe the most effective way to assist in building a correct understanding of rules and how to apply them is by watching videos with annotation, diagrams and shading to highlight key teaching points. Taking away and remembering specifics on a rule, such as rebounding, is easier when visual aids are used to present in a way that is easy to listen to and understand.

The Officials Institute, and the 5 Play Challenge segment, creates videos in a fun and interesting way to test your ability to properly recognize specific plays, but don't leave you guessing about whether there was a foul, violation or not. Even though we cannot officiate in slow motion or freeze frames, by watching and reviewing video video in this fashion, we are able to "retrain our brain" so we can start seeing plays more accurately when we do see them in real time and increase our ability to get the call right.
