Opinion or Truth?
Every Sunday across this country and around the word, men and women stand behind pulpits and lecterns. It also happens just about every other day in various settings that someone stands in front of a group of people and shares a sermon, a homily, a teaching or a lecture.
There are many different types of preaching:Topical, textual, expository, narrative, doctrinal, evangelistic, biographical, and exegetical. But what's the purpose of these types of delivery?
It's to let the Word of God speak to us. Not someone telling their opinion of what the Word says, but a true representation of God's communication to us.
Jay and Tom compare two types of preaching: Topical and expository. The word "expository" simply means "to expose." With Jay's nearly fifty years of preaching and Tom's over 60 years of listening to sermons (and some preaching, too) they discuss the importance of just what is being said when they stand to speak.
Is it really a "This is what God wants us to hear" or put the Old English way, "Thus saitheth the Lord..."?
It better be!
