We have developed flow and pressure sensors, as well
as chemical sensors emulating the sensing capability
of marine animals. Arrays of low power microsensors
provide continuous flow sensing information that can
be used for near-field three-dimensional flow reconstruction
for navigation and control of marine robots,
energy saving, and flow energy capture. Chemical
sensors emulating the outstanding ability of sharks in
detecting trace elements can provide reliable information
in the field. We review the development of these
sensors and the potential for significantly improving
underwater robotic operation and flow sensing and
chemical element detection.
