(8 Aug 2019) Pakistan on Thursday once again condemned India's decision to downgrade Kashmir's special status, and the imposition of a communications blackout and security clampdown in the region.
In Islamabad, Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal told reporters that Kashmir had been "converted into the largest prison in the world and in the history of mankind."
Faisal said authorities were considering a proposal to approach the International Court of Justice regarding India's decision to downgrade Kashmir's special status.
He said actions taken by India in the divided Kashmir region were even being opposed by the Indian opposition and media.
Faisal said Pakistan never shut doors for talks with India in the past but India never positively responded to Islamabad's such offers.
"We can never advocate war. We can only say that all solutions should be through a dialogue, through a negotiated process, after listening to and understanding the wishes of the Kashmiri people," he said.
He said Pakistan had apprised Washington and many other countries about the Indian actions in the Kashmir region.
Also on Thursday, hundreds held a protest march in Islamabad, condemning India's move.
The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and downgraded the region from statehood to a territory.
Rebels in Muslim-majority Kashmir have been fighting Indian rule in the portion it administers for decades.
