Jesus’ Message in His Time
When Jesus (Yeshua) spoke about everlasting life, He was speaking to a world ruled by Roman oppression, religious corruption, and spiritual blindness. The Jewish leaders, who were supposed to guide the people to God, had burdened them with man-made traditions (Mark 7:6-9). The Pharisees taught that righteousness came through rituals and legalism, while the Sadducees didn’t even believe in the resurrection (Acts 23:8). Meanwhile, Rome imposed its own pagan culture, promoting idolatry, sexual immorality, and violence.
In this world of deception, Jesus declared: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6). He offered something far greater than the temporary pleasures or power of this world—eternal life in God’s Kingdom. But He made it clear that this gift required obedience to God’s commandments (Matthew 19:17).
