Floating Angel Arms is an excellent Yoga Tune Up® exercise that helps to bring awareness to the upper back and shoulders.
It is simple - all you need is a strap or some other object to hold on to. With your hands down by your sides, palms facing forwards, pull the strap apart (shoulder abduction), against your legs (shoulder extension) and attempt to rotate your shoulders away from you (external rotation) without allowing your spine to change shape or shoulders to retract.
This is a great prep for the shoulders for any exercise that requires strength! I love using this as I prep for deadlifts, thrusters, cleans and downdog. Whether you practice yoga, Pilates, CrossFit, or at the gym - this is a great way to bring more awareness to the upper back that is so neglected when we type away on our computers all day.
