This is, without question, the most beautiful rendition of 'the Lark in the Clear Air'. It was recorded by Kenneth McKellar and Patricia Cahill on an old Decca album of duets. Robert Sharples is the arranger and orchestrator of the music. Sharples was a 'light classicist' arranger and composer. Sharples had a long connection with Kenneth McKellar arranging many British folk and art songs for McKellar's stellar recordings. His talent at sensitive and elegant accompaniment and harmonization are on full display here. It is sung in the manner of traditional salon duets of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The song is largely unknown by the public and this is a pity. More recently, recordings have been made of it as an instrumental piece, but the actual tune is covered up with superfluous ornamentation. Here is the song - as it SHOULD be played.
