Presidential candidates discuss Ireland’s neutrality

Independent candidate Catherine Connolly said the Triple Lock is “at the core of our neutrality” and should be “used proactively” to bring peace in the world.

Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys said she fully supports Ireland’s neutrality but added that “Ireland can’t send peacekeepers to other countries” without the approval of the United Nations, which countries on the Security Council can veto.
