Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has begun seat-sharing negotiations with alliance partners ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The first round of talks was held with the Indian Union Muslim League. IUML president met DMK representatives and demanded that five seats be allotted to the party to contest the elections under the DMK-led alliance. Responding to queries, IUML said it had conveyed its demand of five seats to the DMK leadership. On the response from the DMK committee, IUML stated that the party shared its views, listened to the DMK’s position and was told to consider the discussion and return later. The Congress party is also part of the broader alliance discussions.
