A Qilin that decided to descend from Heaven.

Once, there was a great war that was waged upon the lands of the Lunar People. Being invaded by the Earth youkai, the Lunarian society sought help from Heaven in exchange for their loyalty and faith. In answer to their prayers, the Heaven sent Rin Satsuki to their aid.

The youkai army, led by a great youkai named Yakumo Yukari, was caught in a stalemate between their magic and Lunarian technology. However, they suddenly found themselves in a losing battle when a great Qilin suddenly appeared in a blazing light and consumed the impure youkai from where they stand.

Yakumo, thinking of a way to tip the balance in her favor, sought out to challenge Satsuki in a single combat to decide the victor of the battle. Knowing that Qilin's are honorable creatures, Yakumo knew that Satsuki will not refuse. The two dueled, but as Yakumo was already tired from fighting the Lunarians earlier, Satsuki won, barely.

After defeating Yakumo, Satsuki cast her opponent back to Earth and drove the remaining youkai away. After the battle, Satsuki saw the state of affairs of Earth, and saw that the surface was ravaged by sickness and injustice.

As a Qilin, she could not abandon the poor humans, and so she decided to stay on Earth. However, Heaven disapproved of her actions, saying that man were just mere servants of Heaven, just before the mercy of the Gods. After hearing Heaven's disapproval, Rin Satsuki cut off her ties from Heaven, and descended upon the surface, helping out humans whenever she can find them.

Time passed, and Rin Satsuki became a traveler, usually posing as a young woman to help out unfortunate humans without revealing her identity. However, after the Great Youkai Expansion Project proposed by a certain youkai, Rin Satsuki's powers began to weaken gradually.

After the creation of the Hakurei Barrier, Rin Satsuki did not heed the gathering of youkai upon Gensokyo, deciding to help out humans, even with her dwindling powers. In present, she poses as a traveling voluntary genius doctor/social worker, usually performing medical miracles disguised as skillful medical techniques.

Even though it is dwindling, her power is still great. As a Qilin, she has the power to call great flames that can instantly vaporize evil youkai on the spot, and yet do no harm to anyone with good intentions. Her flames can also heal the sick, and just being around her can bring immense good luck.

Well, it's been a while since I last tried doing another Rin's theme. I really have an affinity for this certain fan character, and it is worth noting that my first work (Missing Girl) was for her.

My technique hasn't really changed and I don't think I've done major improvements, but I guess it's to be expected. I think I have to start treating music more seriously this coming year. :3

This theme doesn't sound much like a game theme, but I can't think of a theme that would fit a kind-hearted Qilin in a danmaku game. After all, the only reason a Qilin will fight you is because you did something bad, right?

Although I can't say that this is my best theme so far, it's sort of a birthday present for me. :P

And yes, I did draw her picture. Pencils and crayons.
