Opening Operation:
Opening operation in morphological image processing is a two-step process that involves erosion followed by dilation using the same structuring element. It is primarily used to remove small objects or noise from an image while preserving the shape and size of larger objects. Opening smoothens object boundaries, breaks narrow connections, and eliminates thin protrusions, making it effective for noise removal and shape extraction. The size and shape of the structuring element determine the operation's effect on the image. This operation can be applied to both binary and grayscale images and is idempotent, meaning applying it multiple times yields the same result as applying it once.
